Local Nonprofit Seeking Donations and Volunteers for Back-to-School

July 11, 2014

Can you believe that Cherokee County students head back to school in less than a month? Local nonprofit Give a Kid a Chance hopes to send more than 4,000 students back to school with all of the supplies they will need for a successful school year. Their 9th annual Back-to-School Bash will take place on Saturday, July 19th from 9 a.m.-3p.m. at two locations, Hillside United Methodist Church in Woodstock and First Baptist Church in Canton.

Give a Kid a Chance has local businesses, civic groups and more than 30 churches of all denominations working together to equip these children for this event on July 19th. The GAKAC event is made up of close to 500 volunteers working from set-up Thursday and Friday nights to clean-up on Saturday afternoon.

This year, the organization is joined by Bethesda Community Clinic, a fully-equipped medical clinic in Canton specializing in primary care for all age groups. Bethesda Community Clinic has launched a campaign to put 1,000 gift cards in the hands of children to prepare them for either starting kindergarten or returning to school. These gift cards are $40 apiece and will provide a child in need with a checkup, sports physical, dental visit or sick-visit and treatment. The gift cards will be handed out at the Canton First Baptist Church location of the GAKAC event as an effort to raise awareness about the care Bethesda Community Clinic offers and to give the children of Cherokee County this much-needed service.

If you’re interested in volunteering or donating to this wonderful cause for Cherokee County children, you can visit the Give a Kid a Chance website to view a list of their needs as well as sign up for volunteer slots.
